Indian passport holders need a visa to enter Malaysia. The eVisa for Malaysia can be applied for online through the official Malaysian Immigration website (malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my). Processing typically takes 3–5 business days. Indian travellers also need a valid passport (6+ months validity), return ticket, hotel booking, and proof of funds. The digital arrival card is also required, as it is for all visitors. Visa-on-arrival is not available for Indian nationals — apply in advance.

US citizens don't need a visa for Malaysia, so visa rejection isn't a concern for most American travellers. However, entry can still be refused at the border for: expired or near-expiry passport (under 6 months validity), no return or onward ticket, failure to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, previous overstay in Malaysia, or insufficient proof of funds. For Indian and other nationals who do require a visa, rejections most commonly happen due to incomplete documentation, insufficient funds evidence, or a prior immigration violation.

Flights from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Chicago (ORD) take approximately 21–25 hours including one connection. There are no nonstop services on this route. Common routing options are via Tokyo (ANA or JAL), Seoul (Korean Air), or Taipei (EVA Air) for West-Coast-positioned connections, or via Doha (Qatar Airways) or Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) for East Coast approaches. Turkish Airlines often has the lowest fares on this routing from Malaysia to Chicago.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared on 8 March 2014 while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. Despite one of the largest search operations in aviation history, the main wreckage has never been found.
